Learning Online at Yale: Online lectures enter the classroom

Open Yale Courses has made professors’ lectures available to Internet users around the world, but it is also changing how those professors teach on campus. The website, which now features videos and transcripts for 35 Yale courses, launched in 2007 in an effort to broaden access to a Yale education. But in some cases, the program has led to revisions in a Yale education: many professors whose lectures are posted online have since altered their courses to avoid redundancy and give students a reason to attend class in person. While many professors have changed the topics they cover, others have completely redesigned the structure of their classes and incorporated the online material. Ecology and evolutionary biology professor Stephen Stearns and religious studies professor Christine Hayes both require their students to watch their online lectures before coming to class so that they can spend class time on discussion. Many students interviewed complained that this format makes the courses much more time-intensive, but some said they appreciated the chance to engage actively with the material during lecture.

Teachers and Administrators Need To Get Mad For The Right Reasons

The reactions and responses continue regarding the Rhode Island and Central Falls High School shake up…in another article entitled “R.I. School Shake-Up Is Embraced by the President” by Steven Greenhouse and Sam Dillion, “…two unions, the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, were so angry in the hours after Mr. Obama first endorsed the firings…”

My feeling is that these unions are doing what they should in the interest of their group right? They support anything that benefits their group and reject anything that goes against it. So that leaves both teachers and school administrators to grapple with their dilemma; and I call it a dilemma. I think it really comes down to this…if you are not making positive results in your position whether that’s teaching or administration, how do you justify remaining in that position? How do you feel good at night knowing that students are not being educated and are leaving that school ill prepared for the road ahead? How do you make peace with students who do not succeed under your tutelage? What really is your underlying fear? Fear of not having a paycheck or fear of feeling that you can’t make a difference? Why do we feel the need to protect people that are not doing the job? Should we keep the same people in the same positions and expect different results?

“I ripped the Obama sticker off of my truck,” said Zeph Capo, a midlevel official at the Houston Federation of Teachers who trains classroom teachers. “We worked hard for this man, we talked to our neighbors and our fellow teachers about why we should support him, and we’re having to dig the knife out of our back.” I’m actually glad that they are getting mad about it…the fact is they should be getting mad at the fact that students are failing in this system. They should get mad at the fact that something drastic needs to take place so that students don’t fail anymore. They should get mad at the fact that it’s always easier to stand with a crowd even when the crowd is wrong than stand alone for something that is right. They should be working on a plan that helps to move students in the right direction instead of playing political hardball. The knife they are pulling out of their backs was actually put there by their own unions…who perpetuated the perception that as long as you stick with us…you won’t have to worry about being accountable to anyone.

“Revenge of the Electric Car” Documentary Lacks Spark, Still Informative

I really don’t agree with the reviewers note on the electric car. I truthfully think technology has come a long way and this is something new and different. Especially with cheap insurance Canada becoming more popular these days, the electric car will be on the rise in the upcoming years.

People need to actually try out the car and get a feel for it themselves before actually giving their feedback on it. The electric car is the best thing that they have made yet. I like the thought of it. It is something new and different, and if I had the chance to purchase the vehicle I will.
The money is way worth it than actually having to keep putting gas in your car with the way rising gas prices are today. If you want to know something more about the car that they may not list, why not go to the dealer and get a peek and feel for yourself. You can then ask all of the many questions that you may have about the car.

If you are not liking what you hear, then do not purchase it. If you like what you hear and want to try something new, purchase it.
I think that whoevers idea of making such a great car like this was, did a fantastic job of convincing. No matter what critics have to say about it, it still sounds like it is a good car to me. A movie doesn’t really do anything for me. I like to get the feel of it in person. I like to get out there and actually ask questions myself in person.

Overall, this didn’t change what I think about the new electric car. It is still a great car in my eyes regardless of what a movie, or one critic has to say about it. Job well done to the latest technology is cars today!

Outrage In Bloomfield

I cannot believe what happened in Bloomfield. It is scary to think what would have happened if the bus driver would have had her bus filled with autistic kids. This is a terrible example for an adult. There needs to be an even more rigorous back ground check. Someone should have noticed that she was drunk in the first place the fact that she made it onto to the bus is absolutely appalling to me.

The owner of the bus company needs to take better action and precautions in order to stop any such incidents from happening in the future. More importantly, the drivers should have alberta auto insurance I firmly believe that the female bus driver should not only get fired but also serve some time. If her bus had been filled with kids then she could have killed someone.

Police said that she almost hit another car. This whole incident could have been avoided If the right people were doing their jobs right. First the boss at the bus barn needs to make sure that every driver is safe to drive. This process might take some extra time, but the owner will save money on what the possible outcome could be. Another way that this incident could have been avoided is by hiring bus drivers that love their job. If someone doesn’t love their job or is only in it for the money, than that person is going to be a bad employee.

Employee’s need to enjoy their jobs so that they do not hate going to work every day. I think this idea is especially important when it comes to those people who deal with children with needs. You need to know how to act around children with special needs. Children with autism need people who do not get upset easily and always have a smile on their faces. The bus driver in Bloomfield made a poor decision that will haunt her for the rest of her life. My only wish is that we can prevent this from ever happening again.

Accredited Online Universities to Consider

Getting an education is certainly not what it used to be. The fact is today you have more options than ever before. While you can still attend college the old fashioned way, you can also consider accredited online universities. This is basically the way more and more people are attending school these days. Consider a standard university campus. You sign up for classes, purchase your textbooks, and explore the campus in order to find out where your new classes are located. This can take a little time, and it definitely requires more effort than online college classes do. May it is time you became better acquainted with accredited online universities.

Never overlook a higher degree of education. While it is imperative to obtain a high school diploma, it is wise to proceed on to an accredited university as well. This is where you arise the bar. Imagine heading out into the real world with only a high school diploma these days. That is not a good idea! Especially when you consider all of the men and women you will be forced to compete with for the same job positions. Employers will be looking over your qualifications to determine whether or not you are as good as the next applicant.

Unfortunately many people did not have the funding or time to attend a four-year university after high school. Do not let this get you down. There are plenty of accredited online universities to check out now. It does not matter if you are 22 or 42. There is still time to get that college degree you need. Simple take a moment to consider what field of employment you will be interested in, and then seek out accredited online universities that offer this program. Even if you already have a full-time job and family, you can still attend college online. Just be sure to sign up for classes that enable your current schedule to stay the same.

A few websites you can benefit from looking at are earnmydegree.com, choosedevry.com, and phoenix.edu. These convenient websites allow you to browse through their online programs in order to see what is available. As far as tuition is concerned, you may qualify for government aid. This can often take care of your school tuition and textbooks. You do not even have to visit a university campus when you get involved with accredited online universities. Your textbooks can be sent to your home via UPS or mail. There really is no excuse these days not to get that college education you have been thinking about. Accredited online universities cannot only boost your confidence, but they can really increase your level of income as well.

Taking Children out of Special Education Schools to put them into the Regular Public School System

New York has decided that there are just too many children with learning disabilities the state has for it to handle adequately with its current policies; and schooling them at dedicated special education schools they feel is a good way to bankrupt the public education system in New York. So instead, the state is moving away from dedicated special education. It turns out that the system can save a lot on its investments, just trying to equip existing general-purpose public schools to handle children with special needs. Starting this fall, about 250 schools in the state will take in most students with special needs. And in fall next year, all of the state 1500 schools will take in children with special needs – all the children except the ones with needs that will require truly specialized training and help.

This may be a somewhat novel practice to New York, but cash-strapped school districts nationwide have been moving in this direction for quite a while. In New York, this is all part of the drift wee been seeing in the education policy, towards giving school principals are great deal more responsibility for seeing schoolchildren through. One just wonders though how exactly are they to handle all the responsibility special education schools used to, when they don have the training for it. Isn it enough that schools have a regular children running out of control in their hallways to deal with as it is?

For instance, do these schools have testing procedures in place to show them that they are doing a good-enough job with children with special needs? What if this plan only ends up having such children stocked up in these schools with no real education, and failing in a way that the school administration just can acknowledge for fear for their reputation? When there aren enough controls in place to check if the schools are doing a good job, it could be a good while before anyone realizes that they are failing. And meanwhile, those children trapped there, would have lost a good deal of their developmental years. The thing is, dedicated special education schools are very expensive to run. Right now, New York City alone spends about $5 billion a year on running schools for children with special needs and it climbing. A lot of the time, the law gives parents the right to demand that the state spend on sending their special needs child to a private school.

School administrations claim however that they don move children out of special needs schools and into the regular public schools to save money. They say that with all the specialized schooling, such children still find it hard to develop enough to pass standardized tests ?only one out of four actually gets a regular diploma. They say that they are just trying to find a way to improve on that graduation rate. In these mixed batch classrooms, teaching is to go on as before, except for the fact that there is to be an extra teacher to help with the special needs students; they call this collaborative team teaching. Sometimes the special needs students have their own classes with no more than 10 students in the room; and in other places, special students receive special training like speech therapy, that other students would not need.

But often, the special needs students just slip through the cracks. The teachers don really expect too much performance from them, and they just vegetate in class. If could take a decade or so of experience with this new model before anyone really knows how it plays out.

Student Health Insurance

Once you finally finish high school, you hit a point where you must begin adulthood. At least to some degree. After all, now it is time to move out of your folks’ house and head off to a university. This typically means four years of growing up. Suddenly you are afflicted with bills like dorm fees or rent, food expenses, high gas prices, and don’t forget about tuition and textbook costs. All of this can add up to a lot when you have no real job or career to pay the bills. This is why so many college students forget all about health insurance coverage. This is a terrible idea, and you should know that student health insurance is feasible.

Although many young men and women do not realize it, student health insurance is generally quite affordable. In fact, most students are only charged once each quarter or semester, as long as you acquire your insurance plan through the university. If you are a full-time student, you can likely obtain student health insurance coverage for the entire semester or quarter for around $50 or less. Many student health insurance plans are as low as $30. This even includes dental insurance coverage as well. You really can’t beat that very low rate, regardless of what insurance plan you get. It is imperative to stay covered just in case.

Okay, so you may not have any idea where to turn for more information regarding student health insurance plans and programs. This is no big deal! Especially since there are simple and convenient website like Student-Health-Insurance.com, FreeQuotes.Vimo.com, and eHealthInsurance.com to check out for more details. The key is to acquire the type of coverage that suits you. If you are like most people between the ages of 18 and 25, you have no health conditions that you need to worry about. Therefore you can get the student health insurance coverage you need for very little money. Most universities offer this.

Like most health and dental coverage plans, student health insurance often covers a percentage. This means if you need to go see the doctor for any reason, you may have a small co-pay, or it may not cost you anything at all. Prescriptions drugs will also be less expensive if you need to acquire them for an illness. To give you an example, you may have to get a cavity filled. This might cost around $125. However, since you have a decent student coverage plan, it may only cost you around $30. This is certainly not bad in comparison. This is why it always pays to have a good health insurance coverage plan in place. You simply never know when you might need it.
